Threat Visibility and Analytics with NGINX Controller App Security Organizations at all different phases of the digital transformation journey are adopting DevOps practices to make app development and deployment more efficient. At the same time, one requirement remains paramount: apps must be protected from malicious traffic. In support of that goal, many organizations are applying a common DevOps practice – monitoring app performance after deployment for insights into required fixes or potential new features – to security as well. In particular, they’re using threat visibility and analytics tools that reveal what malicious traffic consists of and what part of the app it is targeting. Threat visibility enables security (SecOps) and development (AppDev) teams to monitor security compliance and assess changes to the threat surface of apps as new app versions get released. As with monitoring the performance of new app versions for [ more… ]

Introducing the NGINX Controller App Security Add-On for Application Delivery

Introducing the NGINX Controller App Security Add-On for Application Delivery When NGINX released NGINX Controller 3.0, we explained that our guiding principle in developing the new version was “we can do better”. Our customers had told us over and over that the traditional infrastructure‑centric approach to traffic management and load balancing was often too slow, too complex, or too difficult for DevOps and Developer teams to use. So we introduced an application‑centric approach that makes it easier to deploy and manage apps. With Controller’s app‑centric approach and APIs, modern app teams can thrive because the infrastructure team can now offer traffic management and load balancing as a self‑service function to their DevOps and Developer teams. This ensures high availability and high performance of their apps, resulting in a great user experience for their customers. Even with self‑service traffic management enabled [ more… ]

Announcing NGINX Plus R23 We’re happy to announce the availability of NGINX Plus Release 23 (R23). Based on NGINX Open Source, NGINX Plus is the only <span style="white-space: nowrap;"all-in-one software load balancer, reverse proxy, and API gateway. New features in NGINX Plus R23 include: gRPC health checks – Actively testing that a gRPC service can handle requests before sending them significantly boosts reliability. Unprivileged installation support – NGINX Plus can now be installed by, and upgraded as, an unprivileged (non‑root) user. This fully supported solution aligns with the growing trend toward zero‑trust security models. OpenID Connect PKCE support – NGINX Plus R23 implements the Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE) extension to the OpenID Connect Authorization Code flow. PKCE prevents several types of attack and enables secure OAuth exchanges with public clients. Rounding out this release are finer‑grained control over SSL/TLS, a native method [ more… ]

Powering API Management for DevOps with NGINX Controller

2020-12-04 KENNETH 0

Powering API Management for DevOps with NGINX Controller It’s hard not to talk about DevOps today. From startups to large enterprises, companies across all industries are turning to DevOps practices to improve the speed and quality of their application development. And it’s not hard to see why. According to the 2019 Accelerate State of DevOps report, compared to software teams with inefficient app development and delivery processes, teams leveraging DevOps at the highest level can: Release code updates 208 times more frequently Maintain lead times from commit to deploy that are less than one day Recover from failures 2,604 times faster – on average in under an hour But with all the discussion around DevOps adoption, there’s one key ingredient that shouldn’t be overlooked – API management (APIM). DevOps and APIs Are Great Alone, Even Better Together APIs, both internal and external, have become ubiquitous [ more… ]

The State of Modern App Delivery 2020: Results from Our Annual User Survey

2020-11-18 KENNETH 0

The State of Modern App Delivery 2020: Results from Our Annual User Survey As a company with its roots in the open source community, we’ve always relied on input from community members, as well as our customers, to help us choose and prioritize new features and enhancements. One of the best sources of input is your responses to our annual survey. This year we concentrated on how you’re developing and deploying your apps – in particular how you’re using microservices, containers, and infrastructure platforms, and what your challenges are. Check out the complete infographic: Modern Apps and Microservices As in the industry at large, more and more of the organizations where you work are migrating from monolithic to microservices‑based apps. And there’s a complementary increase in use of these technologies in production environments. This suggests a growing confidence that microservices‑based apps [ more… ]
