Secure Cloud-Native Apps Without Losing Speed

2020-11-05 KENNETH 0

Secure Cloud-Native Apps Without Losing Speed Organizations are rapidly adopting cloud‑native app delivery – 27% of organizations plan to deploy more than half of their apps in the cloud by the end of this year and by 2022, 35% of all production apps will be cloud native, according to the API management survey that NGINX commissioned from IDC for 2019. The drive to cloud migration and cloud‑native app development unlocks IT agility and exceptional digital experiences for customers. And yet cloud‑native app delivery comes with challenges of security, visibility, and control. Why do these challenges persist? We’re seeing several drivers. Risks of Cloud-Native App Delivery Here are some of the pain points we observe in cloud‑native app delivery: Cloud‑native app delivery causes tool sprawl and offers inconsistent enterprise‑grade services Apps hosted in the cloud are considered more difficult to manage than on‑prem apps, not [ more… ]

Congrats to the Winners of the NGINX for Good Hackathon

2020-11-04 KENNETH 0

Congrats to the Winners of the NGINX for Good Hackathon At NGINX, we’ve always been focused on serving and engaging with the open source community where we have our roots. Now more than ever, it’s incredibly important to give back to our communities, locally as well as globally. We’ve been humbled by the NGINX community’s enthusiastic willingness to join us in that effort. As part of our virtual NGINX Sprint conference in September, developers from around the world gathered (virtually of course!) for the first NGINX for Good Hackathon. We invited them to use NGINX Open Source and NGINX Unit to build an app or website that helps people impacted by the COVID‑19 pandemic or other social issues, whether at a local level or around the world. A number of developers from around the world – including India, Spain, Turkey, and the United [ more… ]

Bridging the App Modernization Gap, Part 1

2020-10-29 KENNETH 0

Bridging the App Modernization Gap, Part 1 A lot of my work today is helping enterprises to develop and modernize their data strategy. Why? Because although it is clear to many of them that data is increasingly a key business asset, they are not data‑focused when it comes to their technology strategy. The majority of enterprises I speak with still have a traditional approach to delivering technology – they still think about locations and hardware, and are not asking questions about how they want to use data. Because of this, they are potentially limiting their ability to exploit this asset and take advantage of the new opportunities it can present. If they want to fully realize the value of their data, they must start to take a data‑centric approach to IT strategy by developing a strategy focused specifically on data and [ more… ]

Why Speed Matters in Modern APIs

2020-10-28 KENNETH 0

Why Speed Matters in Modern APIs Less than a decade ago, if you had asked me whether API speed is important, I wouldn’t have given it much thought at all. I have worked with APIs for a long time, but usually from an infrastructure perspective – when I was configuring servers or storage, a few seconds here or there wasn’t going to make a huge difference. Fast‑forward to now and I better understand how large aspects of my life and my daily interactions with technology are API‑driven. Speed matters: it can be the difference between a good user experience and an unacceptable one. In this post, I want to walk through some of the use cases that matter the most to me and look at how a great API implementation can make all the difference to your customers. Dinner on Demand [ more… ]
