Benchmarking API Management Solutions from NGINX, Kong, and Amazon: Do They Deliver APIs in Real Time?

Benchmarking API Management Solutions from NGINX, Kong, and Amazon: Do They Deliver APIs in Real Time? Speed – it’s key in today’s digital landscape, where consumers can easily switch to a competitor if your app’s performance is too slow. App speed is ultimately driven by responsive, healthy, and adaptable APIs, and one of the critical factors in API responsiveness is the latency introduced by your API gateway. But not all API gateways perform at the same level. That point was brought home to us last fall when an NGINX customer – a major player in the consumer credit industry – told us about the increasing importance of “real‑time” API performance as more and more apps and other components need to communicate to provide the digital experience users expect. We were highly gratified to learn that NGINX Plus was the only API gateway that achieved [ more… ]

Join Us at NGINX Sprint 2020

2020-07-09 KENNETH 0

Join Us at NGINX Sprint 2020 Save the dates! This September 15 to 17 NGINX is hosting a series of virtual events, which we’re calling NGINX Sprint. Why are we doing this? Normally, every September we host NGINX Conf, a three‑day, in‑person user event. However, months ago it became clear to us – as it has to everyone – that physical events are not going to be possible until there is a vaccine for COVID‑19. Furthermore, Conf is a time to celebrate, network, and engage with our most loyal users, and it just didn’t seem right to hold it given all the stress and anxiety we are collectively grappling with due to the pandemic, civil unrest, and racial justice reform. But we know many of you are back to business, even if it’s not business as usual. So, we went to work planning “Not Conf” (lovingly [ more… ]

NGINX Unit 1.18.0 Adds Filesystem Isolation and Other Enhancements

2020-07-03 KENNETH 0

NGINX Unit 1.18.0 Adds Filesystem Isolation and Other Enhancements Usually, we’d start a blog post like this one rather light‑heartedly, but the mood of the times is undoubtedly somber, the reasons for that being too numerous to joke about. However, we hope you’re doing well – and again, we have some news to share. For starters, we at the NGINX Unit team believe that the term “isolation” doesn’t necessarily deserve the bad rap it has gained recently around the globe, and our most recent release, NGINX Unit 1.18.0, has arrived with an accordingly themed major update. Filesystem Isolation The isolation family of application settings, introduced in NGINX Unit 1.11.0, now includes a new rootfs object. If the underlying OS allows it, you can use rootfs to designate an arbitrary directory as the filesystem root. An application configured this way is locked within [ more… ]

NGINX: A Radically Different Approach to API Management

2020-07-02 KENNETH 0

NGINX: A Radically Different Approach to API Management The rise of the API economy has enabled organizations to deliver increasingly responsive and customized experiences, helping them meet consumer expectations, cut costs, and improve their overall efficiency. At the same time, the flexibility and speed that makes APIs so valuable has made API management (APIM) more critical than ever to companies that hope to capitalize on all the potential benefits of APIs. Companies seem to recognize the need for effective APIM, too – according to MarketsandMarket, the APIM market will grow to $5.1 billion by 2023, a 425% increase from 2018’s $1.2 billion. The Great Promise of APIs To understand why effective API management is so crucial, consider the advantages that have led to the proliferation of APIs. They help businesses: Integrate internal systems to break down silos. APIs enable companies to unlock essential data and assets [ more… ]

Achieving PCI DSS Compliance with NGINX App Protect

2020-07-01 KENNETH 0

Achieving PCI DSS Compliance with NGINX App Protect Digital transformation has changed the security landscape. Traditional digital security no longer exists as organizations transition from monolithic applications to cloud‑native microservices architectures to increase business agility. Because microservices communicate over the network, modern websites and web applications are more vulnerable to cyberattacks than monoliths and have become one of the easiest ways to compromise the networks of companies of all sizes. Organizations need to find the right balance between security and agility. The credit card industry continues to be a frequent target for cyberattacks. This blog discusses the specific security and compliance challenges that enterprises face when they handle credit card transactions, and how technologies like a web application firewall (WAF), and NGINX App Protect in particular, help them meet regulatory requirements. PCI DSS Compliance Is Critical to Today’s Modern Applications [ more… ]
