Bringing cloud powered voices to Microsoft Edge Insiders Beginning with the most recent Dev and Canary channel releases, preview builds of Microsoft Edge now include support for 24 cloud powered text to speech voices across 21 different locales. One place where these will start to show up is in Read Aloud, a feature from the current (EdgeHTML-based) version of Microsoft Edge that gives people the option to have websites read to them by the browser.   A common theme that we heard from Read Aloud feedback in the current version of Microsoft Edge was that the default speaking voices sounded robotic and unnatural. People also told us how time consuming it was to install different language packs so that they could read text in other languages. We have made this experience better with the arrival of cloud powered speaking voices in the preview builds of Microsoft Edge.  What are cloud powered voices?  Powered by Microsoft Cognitive Services, these new [ more… ]

Windows 10 SDK Preview Build 18956 available now!

Windows 10 SDK Preview Build 18956 available now! Today, we released a new Windows 10 Preview Build of the SDK to be used in conjunction with Windows 10 Insider Preview (Build 18956 or greater). The Preview SDK Build 18956 contains bug fixes and under development changes to the API surface area. The Preview SDK can be downloaded from developer section on Windows Insider. For feedback and updates to the known issues, please see the developer forum. For new developer feature requests, head over to our Windows Platform UserVoice. Things to note: This build works in conjunction with previously released SDKs and Visual Studio 2017 and 2019. You can install this SDK and still also continue to submit your apps that target Windows 10 build 1903 or earlier to the Microsoft Store. Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18362.10012 & 18362.10013 (19H2) Hello Windows Insiders! Today we are releasing 19H2 Build 18362.10012 and Build 18362.10013 to Windows Insiders in the Slow ring. As a reminder, we are testing the ability to ship these updates with features turned off by default so that we can then turn them on via controlled feature rollouts. This helps us gain better feedback on overall build quality. A subset of Insiders in the Slow ring will have features turned off by default, and another subset will have them turned on by default. This means not everyone in the Slow ring will see new features right away: IF you are on 19H2 Build 18362.10005 – you will receive Build 18362.10012 today with features turned OFF by default. IMPORTANT: As is normal with builds early in the development cycle, these builds may contain bugs that might be painful for some.
