Find out how the Acer ConceptD notebook helped architects visualize design for world’s biggest airport Beijing Daxing International Airport, photo by Hufton+Crow For most people, airports are a means to an end, an obligatory way station that gets them to where they want or need to go. But Beijing’s new Daxing International Airport was designed to be more than that. “This airport is the biggest single, walkable terminal building in the world,” says Patrik Schumacher, who leads Zaha Hadid Architects, the global firm based in London tasked with designing the airport, which opened in September. “Its distinctive character is its long span roof structure which sculpts the space, draws in natural light and orients passengers to their gates.” Schumacher was a student 30 years ago when he started working with Zaha Hadid, who passed away two years ago. Announcing the draft Security Baseline for Microsoft Edge version 79 We are pleased to announce the draft security baseline for the initial stable release of the new Microsoft Edge! Please review the security baseline (DRAFT) for Microsoft Edge version 79, and send us your feedback through the Baselines Discussion site. What are security baselines? Every organization faces security threats. However, the types of security threats that are of most concern to one organization can be completely different from another organization. For example, an e-commerce company may focus on protecting its Internet-facing web apps, while a hospital may focus on protecting confidential patient information. The one thing that all organizations have in common is a need to keep their apps and devices secure. Antijoin in MySQL 8

Antijoin in MySQL 8 In MySQL 8.0.17, we made an observation in the well-known TPC-H benchmark for one particular query. The query was executing 20% faster than in MySQL 8.0.16. This improvement is because of the “antijoin” optimization which I implemented. Here is its short mention in the release notes: “The optimizer now transforms a WHERE condition having NOT IN (subquery), NOT EXISTS (subquery), IN (subquery) IS NOT TRUE, or EXISTS (subquery) IS NOT TRUE internally into an antijoin, thus removing the subquery.”… Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Source: Antijoin in MySQL 8

State of the Word: the story of the slides During the State of the Word at WordCamp US 2019, Matt Mullenweg shared that Gutenberg was used to create his slides and the presentation was powered by the Slides plugin. Using WordPress to power a slide deck isn’t an obvious choice, so we wanted to showcase the process and give some tips for making slide layouts using Gutenberg. This post is co-written by Ella and Tammie, who (along with Mel, Mark, Enrique, Q and a cast of supporters) helped create this year’s State of the Word slide deck. How it Started Ella Van Durpe was selected to speak at JSConf and ReactEurope and wanted slides for her presentation.  In the past, she’d used Reveal.js to create slides and enjoyed the freedom to create anything using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. These languages [ more… ]
